27th September, 2015....Battle of Britain and Victorian Barrow!

What a beautiful day.....we managed an early morning walk at Furness Abbey...the leaves are just turning and the shadows are lengthening...lovely!

The family had the idea of doing a 'Jacob's Join' roast dinner today....we all cooked something and brought it to my house....it was rather successful I thought, although I still felt frazzled slaving over my range cooker, even though I only did the veg!! There has been no let up for the SteveHillman camera....the Swan Hotel was yesterday's venue...

.....Newby Bridge looking stunning in the autumn sunshine.....as is my garden at the moment!

My two favourite things last week...local history.....

......and CAKE!!! (Apologies to my friend and colleague Jo who missed both this year!).Local schools were so supportive of the Macmillan charity....I don't think there was one school that didn't take part, and our parents were generous to a fault, as always!

We did attend the Battle of Britain parade last weekend...we mustn't forget.........

...so, a week of history and heritage....the blue skies and cake were a bonus!!

13th September, 2015...Back to work blog!

Oh well....the official summer has come to an end, so, of course, the beautiful spell of weather has begun! Looking lovely down at Furness Abbey this afternoon....

....the top field has clearly been ploughed though...autumn preparation!

Whilst us primary teachers were busy grafting last Monday, trying to keep body and soul together, everyone else, including my son, had an INSECT (INSET) day, and where better to spend it than on a road trip to the Lakes, and who better to spend it with but nana and granddad Hillman!!

Yew Tree Barn will be locking the doors when they see him coming next time!

Great breakfasts at the Apple Pie Eating House too!

The SteveHillman camera never misses the chance for a great shot though...this was early morning above Lake Windermere!

We did laugh when Frankie finally went back to school and we took the third photo in this series.....

...we are obviously giving him the right food!!!

Little bullocks had got themselves stuck in the Abbey beck this afternoon...let's hope they are savvy enough to get out again!

My little brother's birthday was on Friday.....people laugh when I call him little brother...he's a mid forties burly fireman actually! Ahhh!

2nd September, 2015....wonderful weather and weddings!

As predicted, September has ushered in glorious blue skies, dazzling sunsets and pleasantly balmy temperatures! Still a few more days of the summer holidays left, so after a manic extended weekend of weddings and family roast dinners we headed down to Furness Abbey...and it looked lovely!

The Abbey grounds are getting their annual haircut, ahead of this weekend's Medieval Fayre!

After a rather large roast dinner, on my last 'pinny day' of the season, we all had a walk down here on Monday....not quite as sunny, but lovely and green and calm!!

Of course, Abbey Mill ice creams had to be purchased!

We abstained, obviously!

Some lovely weddings shot by the SteveHillman camera this weekend...Frankie was impressed by the 250K Lamborghini that one of the grooms arrived in!

I think the keys were lost at one point during the evening!

Lovely! And he has the opportunity to shoot such a variety of family groups and venues...no sign of the wedding season slowing down at the moment....doesn't ease until January really, then starts again in March!!

We walked up to How Tun Woods last night at 8pm because we could see from our house how the evening sunset would pan out....and we were right....

....stunning...why would you go anywhere else!!
